Introduction

Fallout: New Vegasis a post-apocalyptic open world role-playing game. It was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, published by Bethesda Softworks and released in 2010 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Fallout: New Vegas takes place in 2281, four years after the events of Fallout 3. It's not a direct sequel to Fallout 3, and the events of that game are only mentioned very rarely in Fallout: New Vegas. The game's setting is the post-apocalyptic Mojave Desert (called "Mojave Wasteland" in-game). The playable area consists mainly of areas of Nevada, but parts of Arizona and California can also be visited. Having survived nearly intact from the great war, the New Vegas strip in the middle of the desert plays a significant role in the game.

The protagonist of the game, known only by the name of "Courier", gets shot in the head and buried alive by a mysterious man and his goons during a seemingly routine package delivery. The Courier miraculously survives, though, and begins his journey to find out what happened to his package and why. The trail leads to the New Vegas strip, ruled by the mysterious Mr. House.

The Courier soon finds out there is great unrest within the Mojave Wasteland, as a notorious population of slavers known as Caesar's Legion are looming just beyond Hoover Dam, which is governed by NCR, New California Republic. Whoever controls Hoover Dam controls the Mojave, and it is up to the Courier to choose a side or fight for an independent New Vegas.
