"I've been doing the real time animation system (Mario in Real Time Red.anm.) for five years before that (Mario 64) so I got to practice and become the character of Mario, to be joyful and happy, and all of the sudden I got a phone call were they wished that I play Mario in a game and I was like "woohoo". And It was such an exciting session. Every session have been so much fun and every game have been so much fun - my life have been so much fun. I crashed an audition 28 years ago to do this character and they were like "make up a voice and don't stop talking until you run out of things to say". And after 30 minutes they were like "STOP STOP TALKING, there is no more tape!!" and I thought that was the end, but it was the beginning of 28 years of joy - so far!

And hopefully it will be another 28 years because it's just so much fun. And that is what I wish for everybody in life, do what you love to do, find your passion, find your joy, find out what it is that makes you happy! And in that you'll find a way to make other people happy too. Life is short and it certainly happens fast, but if you're doing what you love to do and bring happiness to yourself it reflects into your world I think."

"Recording Super Mario Odyssey, I remember I walked in to the door and I saw the first animations and I just knew that this was going to be a magical and fun game. I love this game."

Spiller du mange Mario-spill selv?

"Oh yes! It's such a joy! I'm not very good at playing mario games. I'm stuck in this one place and I need to get my niece to help me out and get me past there. And this goes on and on through the levels, but I still love to play!"

Har du et favorittspill?

"Oh... That's a tough question. I really love Super Mario Odyssey, but I'll be honest with you.. With the next game that comes out I'm sure I'll say "Oh my gosh this is my favourite ever!". The first time I saw Super Mario Galaxy I had goosebumps of just seeing them fly through the galaxy. Super Mario Bros. 3D world ... Yeah it's like everytime you see a game for the first time it's like "this is the greatest thing ever!" And it's true! And the reason I think it's true is because there's a passion for video games and Nintendo wants to make the most joyful, fun, happy thing that they can make. And when everybody is on the same page you can't help but to create and with the technology that follows the idea. It's the passion and joy that creates the opportunity for more fun.

Everytime I see a game I smile. Creativity leads to creativity. Joy leads to joy. Happiness leads to happiness."

"ABSOLUTELY! Mario is my favorite! Feeling Mario's joy and happiness begins my day so well."

"Your character always have to be true so you have to find that in yourself. For me, finding pure joy, love, happiness, respect and courage - those are aspects that I had to find in order to do the character well. It's like my touchstone. And if you take care of yourself and your instrument you can keep finding that voice. Like the woman who does Bart Simpson! She's not six years old you know, but she can still find that voice and that's fantastic!"

"At least another 30 years for sure! You know, I'm a perfectionist and if I ever find out that I can't do it, then I'll stop and I'll be the first one to know if I can't hit the right notes or have the energy, but I hope that day never comes. I remember the guy that did Tony Tiger and he was doing it in his 90's!"

*making Waluigi sound* "- and that's all I can comment on that question hehe. No, but I'm surrounded by a great team and If they were to ask me to do a voice in a game I would be like "whoopiee".

"Well I don't know! You know I really love Nintendo and that my legacy is attached to these characters. There's plenty of young people out there looking for work, but if I'm invited to do something of course I'll look at it and play with it. But it has to be within the confines of what I feel are really good values."

"You know, Nintento and Mario fans are the most wonderful people. They love the games, they love the characters and they are devoted to them, so I don't have weird experiences. I just have the most wonderful time! People will say thing to me like: You're the voice of my childhood! I just feel like the luckiest guy in the world."

"I know very little about game design and such, but I would say education, education, education!"
