Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the most anticipated game of this century, but does it live up to its expectations?
I spent many hours with the previous game, which stretched my expectations for this new game high up in the sky. The good graphics, the fantastic physics and the new online system, was mainly the reasons why the previous game got so much attention. And the sequel does not disappoint.
The game starts off where Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ended, which makes it a direct sequel. It has been 5 years since where the previous game left off, and you might see some changes. "Soap" MacTavish, the person you played as in the previous game, is in this game your captain. I still have problems with saying "Captain" MacTavish instead of just "Soap" MacTavish, but I guess that's just something I will have to live with. The Russian "bad guy" Makarov is still at large, and he is angry. The main plot in this game is to kill him. Kill him, and the war is over.
The graphics are as good as in the previous game, and it runs amazingly well at 60 frames per second. The game also surprised me with many new weapons, of which all looks extraordinarily good on this game. And also this time around you won't see any of the enemy's twitches (!). The mouth movements gets a little unsynchronized, but you won't mind that, as you're usually on the run when your teammates speak to you.
The sound is as good as in the previous game, with some changes. The explosives sound like it has been taken directly out of the Star Wars saga instead of a real battleground. The voice acting sounds realistic with top actors playing the different soldiers. The guns sound just as good as in CoD4, and the reloading sounds are as trustful as in the previous game.
When it comes to the campaign, I must say that I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, but I have played through it two times. Yes, it is so short that you can play through the whole thing two times without it being as long as Assassins Creed 2. But even though the story is short, it is still intense. The story has a twist like few others, which we shall not spoil for those of you who have not played through it yet.
Special Ops is a new part of the game where you can play certain missions with a friend over the internet or together with split screen. The missions earn you stars, which cannot be used for nothing more than vaunting. The missions are short, and can be played at three different difficulties.
Now I will babble about the online multiplayer.
The online is just as amazing as in CoD4, entertaining, action-filled and fun. The online lets you upgrade your weapons, level up and meet new people over the internet. There are 70 levels which can all be reached ten times. "What? Ten times?" Yes, you heard me right, ten times. You can level up to lv. 70 one time, and then enter "Prestige Mode", which allows you to do the same progress nine times more. It takes time, and it is funny.
All in all is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 one of the best first person shooters I have ever played and I will still play it in 2020. Fun online, great physics, intense (but short) story and great voice acting. Thrilling!
