Flerspillerdelen i The Last of Us lærte Uncharted-studioet en hel del om lagspilling og deathmatcher i forkant av Uncharted 4: A Thief's End-utviklingen. I et intervju med amerikanske Gamespot har Robert Cogburn, Naughty Dogs sjefsdesigner for flerspilleren, sagt følgende:
"We wanted to facilitate teamwork. In Uncharted 2 and 3, one of the big hurdles, particularly in 3, was that teamwork was possible, but it was incredibly hard to facilitate. What we've really tried to do with the systems we've created in 4, like the Mysticals and Sidekicks, when you get teams that are combining those things, you get a lot of synergy with those systems."
