Pokémon Go er fortsatt utrolig populært, og nå som utvikler Niantic Labs har sluppet spillet i enda flere land vil interessen neppe falle med det første. Nå har spillet imidlertid møtt på et nytt problem, og det kommer i form av en offisiell bannlysing i Iran.
Ifølge BBC har "Iranian High Council of Virtual Spaces", det offisielle organet som overvåker internettaktivitet i landet, bannlyst spillet på bakgrunn av bekymringer knyttet til sikkerhet.
Iran har nemlig en rekke kriterier til et produkt før det kan bli tilgjengelig i landet, og disse inkluderer blant annet at serverne skal være fysisk i Iran, i tillegg til at iranske steder (særlig de av religiøs betydning) må koordineres med organisasjonen National Foundation for Computer Games eller NFCG.
Dette har lederen for nevnte organisasjon, Hasan Karimi Ghodosi, sagt Mehr News Agency ikke er tilfellet med Pokémon Go:
"We had a communication through email with the developers of Pokemon Go and with the issue that if the game wants to come to the Iranian market it has to pass through the filtering of the National Foundation of Computer Games along with their cooperation, otherwise we have to filter and block this game in our market,"
