In a shocking development, Hyojong "Haksal" Kim has retired from competitive Overwatch, after just two short years in the Overwatch League. The young talent, who was highly regarded for his skill on Genji, in the DPS role, revealed over Twitter that he is leaving the League officially.
When Haksal first joined the Overwatch League last year, as part of the Vancouver Titans organisation, fans were eager to see how his star-studded Contenders performances would stack up against the best in the world. Shockingly, the Titans roster, who consisted of Haksal's previous Contenders line-up, came in swinging, going all the way to the Grand Finals where they were defeated by the San Francisco Shock.
The Titans roster went through some logistical issues during Haksal's second season, seeing the team disband, with Haksal joining the New York Excelsior - who he played for over the course of this season. NYXL had a reasonable season this year, finishing third in the Asian region, only falling short of the Grand Finals to the Seoul Dynasty. Fans would assume the overall strong season result would prove great grounds for the 2021 season, but with Haksal retiring, NYXL will be looking for someone to step-up and fill in where he left off.
